I’ve just received this photo of a finished jacket from the six day professional tailoring course. Isn’t it just the perfect jacket for this weather. Well done Lorna. As you can see she has made a beautiful job of finishing off this jacket.
The six day course takes you through all the processes of making a jacket using age old traditional techniques. Which is the form of tailoring I learned in the workroom where I started my career. The course has proved so popular this year that I have had to put two courses on instead of just the one I usually do. I also did a talk about tailoring at the Sewing for Pleasure show last month which was packed out every day. It made me start to think that maybe I should be putting on more of the tailoring courses. I do run this course every year but if there are more of you interested in this course I will schedule more.
I have also had enquires about the four day speed tailoring course which I did run earlier on this year but had a poor response to. This method of tailoring uses the fusible interfacings to replace all the hand stitching. I like to use a floating chest piece in this version as it makes the jacket more wearable. As you can see from the picture this makes a much sharper looking jacket, but with the touches I add you can make it look more like the traditional jacket. Without the hand work.
I also run a two day sample course for the speed tailoring the first of which is coming up at the end of the month. On this course we make a sample of half a jacket with all the fusibles in the right place along with techniques for making a perfect notched collar & putting in a sleeve without tears. You can then take this sample home & use it as a three dimensional reference guide for when you making a jacket at home at your leisure.
Here is your chance to let me know what you think. I’m starting a list of everyone who is interested in the six day traditional course & the four day speed tailoring course. When we get enough interest will schedule accordingly. If you want to do the two day sample course you can book here now. All the materials are included.
