Ready, at Last

This morning I managed to get this suit finally finished. It is for my sister Wendy & she is going to wear it at the Sewing for Pleasure Exhibition, which we set up for tomorrow. Ready at Last I cried when I presented it to her newly pressed, hot off the press! The fabric is Linton Tweed which we bought at the show some years ago. I’m saying some because I can’t actually remember. I’m thinking about 6 years but I’m almost certain it’s more.
Ready at Last
It was something that I talked her into buying saying,’ I’ll make you a suit for next year’s show’. I’ve been promising the same thing every year since. She is a very patient person & finally I’ve made good on the promise.
As you can see from the photo’s it has a border print on the edges. This was unusual as the border went along the fabric parallel to the selvedge edge. This meant that I couldn’t place the bottom of the jacket or skirt pattern to run along the border, so I’ve had to cut all of the pattern off the fabric & put it on to the skirt hem & around the jacket as a false facing. I’ve shaped the neck edge using the iron so it looks like a continuous border all the way around. Shaping fabric to fit any shape is featured on my Couture Suit day II course.

I’ve used the paisley print lining inside & the Speed Tailored method of tailoring to construct the jacket. I snapped these photos on my phone so they are not brilliant but I thought you might like to see them.

I’m doing the final bits on the challenge for the NEC at the moment, I’m cutting out lots of Bra’s & Knickers to see how many I can get made during the show. The photo shows the fabric I sorted out from the  Lingerie stash (yes, I do have two stash’s) I’m hoping by the time we have finished the show we will both have lots of underwear to keep us going for the rest of the year.

I have failed in the attempt to get the main fabric stash down to under 50 pieces. With this blue off the list, the total comes down to 51. Now, I’m going to try to resist all the fabric stands at the show but I’m not holding out much hope. The new fabrics we have had delivered to the shop in the past couple of weeks are also calling. I don’t think I’m going to get the total down in the near future!!

I hope to see as many of you as possible at the show. If you are not coming, then keep up with what we are doing via this blog.
