Ladies Professional Tailoring Six Day Course is a tailoring course, which will give you the expertise at the end of six days to be able to make a jacket to a professional standard. At the same time you will be taking away a perfectly fitted garment in high quality cloth, to be admired by all & drooled over by people in the ‘know’.
The course will commence with a toille fitting , arranged before the course starts, using a pattern of your choice. Michelle will do the fitting & make any alterations for the jacket. This will obtain a perfect fit. She will then cut out the jacket for you so it is ready for you to start sewing on the first day.
The rest of the course will consist of – preparation, cutting & tailor tacks. Creating a traditional collar by canvasing, preparing lapel fabric, pad stitching & edge tape to produce perfect lapels. Two piece sleeves, vents, setting in the sleeves & shoulder pads will also be covered, along with pockets, lining in, & preparing hand worked buttonholes.
You will need to provide the pure wool fabric for the jacket, along with the lining. All other fabrics will be provided for you.
The workshop is ideal for anyone in business wishing to offer high quality tailored garments to their clients or for individual dressmakers who would like to create unique professional garments for themselves.
Please note, dressmaking experience is necessary as the course will work to a demanding pace.
A maximum of six students will be allowed on to this course.
Our workshops are run from our workroom above the English Couture Company shop in the beautiful village of Syston in Leicestershire. The room is light & airy & will take up to 8 students. We have Janome Memory craft 6600 machine for all our students. This means you don’t have to bring your machine with you. There are also overlockers available if needed. We have a good supply of the basic sewing equipment for you to use on the course.
There is always tea, coffee & biscuits provided at any time during the day. You will have to provide your own lunch. There are shops near to the studio where you can buy lunch or Ann, our friendly sandwich maker will deliver freshly made food which you can order when you get here. You can bring a packed lunch as an alternative.
The shop is available for students to buy anything they need for their projects during the day. You are very welcome to shop after the course finishes.
All our full day courses start at 10am & finish at around 4pm. Due to the comprehensive knowledge & personalised tuition operated throughout all the workshops, they can sometimes over run.
