The Sewing Guide course will help you to update your dressmaking skills. Hi-tech fabrics, interlinings, notions and attitude to sewing just gets better, and so you need to be in the know!
You will be working with many different fabrics & your sample collection will contain the finest materials such as Silks, Chiffon, and Organza through to day wear suitings such as Wool Crepe, Venetian, Gabardine and Linton Tweeds. Also to include Micro-fibres, evening wear Polyesters, Taffetas, Satin and Laces through to Velvets, Stretch wovens, Knits, Leathers and Lycras plus so much more.
We will stop at each section to discuss the fabrics natural characteristics and handling, emphasise will be placed on design choice when to use particular fabrics method of making e.g. whether you should use traditional, couture or manufacturing techniques, general construction this will include everything from seam style, correct thread use, machine needles and machine feet to professional finishing techniques, hems, bindings, stitch guidance, not forgetting pressing and laundering.
You will compile a full collection of samples to add to your inspirational portfolio. All course materials are included in the price.
THIS WORKSHOP IS SUITABLE FOR BEGINNERS & PROFESSIONALS
Our workshops are run from our workroom above the English Couture Company shop in the beautiful village of Syston in Leicestershire. The room is light & airy & will take up to 8 students. We have Janome Memory craft 6600 machine for all our students. This means you don’t have to bring your machine with you. There are also overlockers available if needed. We have a good supply of the basic sewing equipment for you to use on the course.
There is always tea, coffee & biscuits provided at any time during the day. You will have to provide your own lunch. There are shops near to the studio where you can buy lunch or Ann, our friendly sandwich maker will deliver freshly made food which you can order when you get here. You can bring a packed lunch as an alternative.
The shop is available for students to buy anything they need for their projects during the day. You are very welcome to shop after the course finishes.
All our full day courses start at 10am & finish at around 4pm. Due to the comprehensive knowledge & personalised tuition operated throughout all the workshops, they can sometimes over run.
