The weather may not be quite what you would describe as Summer but I decided at the weekend that I needed to start my Summer Sewing. First jobs first, I already had a shirt on the go. This was started before I went to the NEC in March. The fabric was out of the stash so I needed to get it done so I could tear the fabric out of my fabric book.

As you can see from the photo I wasn’t comfortable with having my photo taken this morning. I really like the pockets on this shirt, the reverse prints make a really nice feature. I am wearing it to work today to test drive it & see if anything needs to be altered. It feels great & I’m really pleased with the fit.

Once this shirt was done & dusted I started to work on another top. The fabric is one of the new fabrics we had in the shop a few weeks ago. It is a peachskin polyester, & has a great feel to it. I like the fresh look of the fabric too. The pattern is a Burda pattern taken from one of the monthly magazines & I think it’s going to be great over a pair of jeans or a skirt for the Summer. The sleeves on it are 7/8 in length & are quite flared at the bottom so it will be perfect for covering up when the sun is really hot. The thing that really appealed to me about this top is the detail on the back.

It is an extra piece added to the back & it drapes beautifully in this fabric. I’ve hand rolled the edges so it makes it lightweight on the edges. I love doing the hand rolled hem as I can just relax in the armchair & it’s really quick to do. It also has a placket finish at the front for fastening. I can’t wait to get it finished & for the sun to shine so I can wear it. This fabric didn’t make it into the stash, which is a good thing but I have plenty more pieces to make up ready for the Summer.
